Summer is a time when we can step back and enjoy our days without feeling constantly overwhelmed. It can feel like we have more freedom, more space, and more time to do what we want.
But having this kind of time is a privilege. It does not always come around, and it is not something everyone has.
The Prophet ﷺ reminded us:
“Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your busyness, and your life before your death.”
This is a reminder that the time we have right now matters, even if it feels like there is always more of it.
Most of us do not always use our time well. It often passes without us even noticing, and we fill it with things that do not really benefit us. This summer let’s take advantage of the time we have.
There are many simple ways to bring barakah into our days, even though small changes in how we choose to spend our time.
With the free time we have, we have the opportunity to reconnect with Allah through the Qur’an. This can look like sitting down and truly reflecting on the meaning, trying to memorize a few verses, or even revising what you already know while improving your pronunciation.
Even taking 15 to 30 minutes out of your day can make a difference. Over time, you can slowly build that habit and spend more time with the Qur’an in a way that feels natural. Even listening while you go for a walk, sit in the park, or move through your day can help you stay connected. You can also involve your friends or family, turning it into something you share together.
These small efforts carry a lot of barakah. Every letter you read is rewarded, and the time you spend with the Qur’an brings a sense of calm, clarity, and closeness to Allah that stays with you beyond the moment.
With the extra time we have, we can slow down and be more present in our salah. Instead of rushing through it, we can take a moment to truly focus on what we are saying and allow ourselves to feel each part of the prayer.
This is also a chance to bring in more sunnah prayers into our day and even try to build the habit of praying tahajjud. These moments give us a quiet, one-on-one connection with Allah that we do not always make time for.
When we approach our prayers with more intention and presence, they begin to feel different. They become a source of calm, reflection, and closeness, and that is where the barakah begins to show in our everyday lives.
Volunteering is one of the best ways to get involved with your community and truly help others. It is about physically showing up and giving your time and effort to those who need it.
It also helps you grow as a person. You begin to see things from different perspectives, appreciate what you have, and learn in ways you would not otherwise.
This summer, volunteer with organizations such as Nisa Foundation, which supports women, children, and families through a variety of community programs. You can also help out at your local food bank or masjid. Even small acts of giving can have a lasting impact, not only on others but on yourself as well.
These moments carry barakah, and the time you give for the sake of others is never wasted.
Not every act of worship has to take a lot of time. Some of the most meaningful ones can happen in small, quiet moments throughout your day.
While you are walking, waiting, or even doing something simple, you can remember Allah. Saying dhikr like Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, or Allahu Akbar can easily become part of your routine without needing extra time.
These small moments may seem simple, but they carry a lot of barakah. They keep your heart connected and bring a sense of calm into your day. Over time, these small habits can turn into something consistent and meaningful.
Time like this does not last forever. What feels like a lot of time right now can quietly pass without you realizing it.
These are just a few simple examples and reminders of how we can make the most of our summer and the time we have. Time is not something small; it is something we cannot get back.
So use it wisely and try to be more intentional with how you spend it. Even something small, done with sincerity, can carry barakah and stay with you in ways you may not realize right away.
